Super Mario RPG Secret Chests – A Complete Guide

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a game in which Mario and his friends try to defeat the Blacksmith Gang, who have scattered Seven Star shards and disrupted their world. This is a special Mario game because it’s the first to have a role-playing component like a Final Fantasy game. You take turns fighting enemies and exploring them in a cool 3D way, kind of like a regular Mario game, but different.

People really like Super Mario RPG because it’s fun and has great 3D graphics. It even inspired other games like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi. The game launched on the Super Nintendo in 1996, and over time, it became available on different consoles such as the Wii and Wii U. A remaster just launched on Nintendo Switch in 2023, and critics loved it.

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG combines elements of games like Final Fantasy with the fun of Super Mario Bros. It’s divided into exploration and turn-based combat, like many RPGs. When you’re not fighting monsters, the game feels a lot like a 3D Mario game, allowing you to do things like hit problem blocks. You can see enemies in the world, so you only fight when you touch them, which helps skip unnecessary fights.

You start with Mario and eventually team up with five characters, choosing three to fight. Each character has a special skill – like Princess Toadstool who can heal, while Geno and Bowser can deal massive damage. Combat plays like a classic turn-based system, but you can perform additional actions by pressing buttons at the right time. This technique became an important part of later Mario role-playing games.

Super Mario RPG plot

One day, Mario went to Bowser’s castle to rescue Princess Toadstool, but a giant sword named Axl shattered the star path and the castle, separating Mario, the princess, and Bowser, while scattering seven star fragments . Mario meets Toad, who tells him to save Toadstool. When Mario attempts to return to the castle, Axl destroys the bridge.

Along the way, he meets Marlowe (not a tadpole but a lost prince) and Geno (the Celestial Spirit in a puppet). They team up to collect star fragments and stop the evil Blacksmith Gang. Bowser even ended up joining the team. They rescue Toadstool from a funny wedding, discover Marlowe’s true identity, free the Nimbus Land, and collect all but one of the Star Fragments. They learn that Smith placed it in Bowser’s castle. They fought all the way, defeated the blacksmith shop, repaired the star road, and after celebrating their victory, everyone returned to their homes happily.
