Remnant 2 takes a minimalist approach to providing help or instructions for solving such dilemmas, including music box puzzles. The lack of clear guidance resulted in a rather confusing experience as I tried to progress through the game.

Step 1: Activate the control stick

First, find a nearby lever that needs to be engaged. Next to the music box, my partner and I found a small room with a diary inside. The journal contains the solution to the puzzle, presenting the symbols in the order needed to be entered into the music box to decipher the code. Whenever you see a dash, it means that no node should be selected in that row.

Step 2: Find the lever in the dungeon

Before the music box can be operated, the levers need to be accessed by traveling through various parts of the dungeon. Approach the diary and two doors will become apparent.

Outside one of the doors is a staircase with a lever inside that must be pulled. This behavior allows the music box to run efficiently once the appropriate nodes are entered. The game doesn’t explicitly instruct the player to pull the lever, causing my partner and I to learn this through trial and error.

After numerous trials and errors in our initial efforts to solve the music box puzzle, we opted to take an alternative route through a nearby portal.

After making our way through a series of maps and defeating several bosses, including Cayura’s Shadow, we stumbled upon a previously opened door. Remarkably, it takes us back to the room with the diary. Climbing the nearby outdoor stairs near the door we unlocked, we found a lever as shown in the picture I attached.

Step 3: Activate the music box’s levers

Before solving the music box puzzle, the levers we encounter must be activated. Once the lever is pulled, the music box resumes functionality.

Step 4: Enter the node according to the log

After activating the lever, we backtracked to the music box and entered the nodes exactly as the log indicated. Each line in the music box corresponds to a symbol outlined in the journal. For example, in the first line, the peg below the initial symbol enumerated in the log must be lifted, which corresponds to the fifth option on the music box. This process should be repeated for subsequent rows.
